The band’s abstract name, Manimal Dissonance, reflects the character of its experimental music. The word manimal refers to minimalism, which, when performed by the group, takes on an animal nature. It indicates musical sparseness or even rawness, as well as the way the rhythm section plays – looped bass riffs and wild drums. And dissonant is a wall of sound built by the guitar – which is partly metal, noise and improvised.
Catastrography is the band’s debut mini-album and a vision that shows the history of the world as a series of catastrophes – from the Big Bang to the endless descent into nothingness.
